Executive Coordinator

Position Description: As Executive Coordinator, I oversee and coordinate our amazing executive to keep providing our co-op students with fun and exciting events and opportunities.

Melany Rodgers

When I am not at UBC, I am….. at Starbucks getting my caffeine fix and reading the newest novel recommended by my friends.

 

Finance & Promotions

Position Description: We promote great products for the career minded including our Ultimate Package, which is new this year and will help you ace your interview. Also, we fund raise for worthy causes such as the Grad Gift , which will be part of a new scholarship offered to Art’s Co-op students. Furthermore, as Finance, we make sure that ACSA doesn’t get into deficit and will have some money left for next year.

Lu Zhao

Major:  Psychology Honours  - 4th Year

Past co-op positions: Previously, I’ve worked at the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site, so I have plenty of stories of living in the middle of nowhere.

When I am not at UBC, (this is very rare since I’m living on campus)I am…  nerdy enough to probably be reading somewhere at a public library or, if I’m lucky, eating out.

Professional Development

Position Description: To arrange and run workshops that will help co-op students develop their professional skills. Some sessions may include: networking events, meeting UBC Alumni and hearing their story (getting inspired), how to create a winning portfolio/resume/cover letter, job interview do’s & don’ts etc. We hope that these workshops will provide students with the opportunity to gain new and transferable skills that they can apply to their future careers.

Francis Wu

Major: Sociology – 4th Year

When I am not at UBC, I like to ….. keep active. I enjoy doing yoga, going on summer hikes, and taking spin classes at the YMCA. Recently, I’ve taken up kickboxing and it’s been a ton of fun! I also enjoy traveling very much. Last year, I traveled to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai. My fondest memory was visiting my relatives in Taipei. I also love trying out new restaurants. Vancouver is known for it’s great food so it’s always fun to discover new hole in the walls and try different cuisines. My favourite restaurants are Stepho’s Greek Tavern and Suika Izakaya.

Social Team

Position Description: The Social Team is responsible for organizing entertaining events for Arts Co-op students, as well as planning the end of semester networking and graduation party for graduating students.  We assist the Mentorship Team in kick-off and wrap-up parties for students, alumni, and faculty.  We are also the ones who plan the delicious food that is provided at the workshops for incoming co-op students.  The Social Team is the most fun team on ACSA and is also a great way to add to your event-planning experience!

Nasrin Himani

Major: English Literature – 3rd Year

When I am not at UBC, I am…. volunteering at events for different charities and organizations; spending time with friends; and having fun with my bff, my sister.

Mentorship

Position Description: The Mentorship Co-Chairs oversee the ACSA Mentorship Program, a program where incoming ACSA members are matched with senior co-op students and/or industry professionals.These pairings are made with majors and career aspirations in mind. The mentors are a tremendous resource to the mentees as they provide feedback on resumes and tips on securing jobs. We’ll be planning a meet-up for networking opportunities. As Co-Chairs, we create the mentorship pairings/trios, and ensure that all students in the program are enjoying their mentorship experience.

Eva Kwan 

Major: Psychology (minor:  Commerce) – 3rd Year

When I’m not at UBC, I am…. commuting to UBC. When I’m not commuting to UBC, I’m reading magazines, shopping for food, playing board games, or watching clouds pass.

Timmy Wong

When I am not at UBC I am…. often thinking about it. Why? It’s where I work; it’s where I volunteer; it’s where I go to school. As you can see, UBC is a big part of my life.

Alumni Relations

Position Description: In collaboration with the Arts Co-op Alumni Network, the ACSA Alumni Relations Team is responsible for keeping a continuous relationship between Arts Co-op Alumni, the Arts Co-op office, and current Arts co-op students. We will be acting as the liaisons between the Alumni Network and ACSA, inviting alumni to attend our social events and workshops. Students will then be able to obtain valuable advice and stories of co-op alumni experience. We look forward to a great year with high alumni attendance at our events!

Gloria Ma

Major: Psychology (Minor: Health and Society) – 4th Year

  1. Summer Day Camp Leader at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver

When I am not at UBC, I am … usually volunteering or working with children in an academic setting like a learning centre tutoring English or in a recreational setting like the YMCA encouraging kids to stay fit and eat healthy.

Publishing

Position Description: Our team mans the ACSA blog, publishing interesting and relevant stories to engage the ACSA community. Look to the blog for job hunt tips, alumni profiles, or event summaries. Email us if you would like to contribute and gain writing experience!

When I am not at UBC, I am … playing badminton or going to the gym with my friends, trying to finish the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis (not the movies), pondering about existentialism and experimenting with different spices in a place called the “Kitchen”
